Langley Road Community Safety Action Plan Launched

“The Langley Road Community Association along with the Community Safety Partnership, have brought the issues to the fore to be dealt with and with agency support they will succeed. There is a new energy and enthusiasm with the Community Association, and I notice a very good interaction today between all the agencies concerned which is great news for the Langley Estate and Ballynahinch.” [caption id="attachment_29914" align="alignleft" width="400" caption="At the launch of the Langley Road community safety action plan were Cllr Billy Walker, Langley Road Community Association members William Johnston and Ian McNeill, vice chairman, Angela Connolly, NIHE officer, Strangford MP Jim Shannon, Neighbourhood Policing Sergeant Nigel Donnelly, Down District Community Safety Partnership Chairman Mickey Coogan, Andrew Steenson, Association Chairman, and Mark Kent, CSP Manager."][/caption] The action plan will focus on education for all sections of the community, especially the younger age group on topics such as road safety, underage drinking, illegal drugs, fire safety, and the community infrastructure. The role of the police is also vital to the success of the action plan and enforcement will also feature highly with joint patrols in the area involving police, Council enforcement officers, and the NIHE Neighbourhood Warden. Also DOE Roads Service will be examining ant potential issues and problems in relation to traffic and road safety. Everyone on the Langley Estate will get an opportunity to get involved in this action programme from the questionnaire being sent out. (This is a confidential survey). There will be a community newssheet given out along with the survey which will be produced by the Community Association and the NIHE. It will provide information on services and about community initiatives that have taken place. Community Safety Partnership Chairman Mickey Coogan said, “These six month long action plans in local areas have proven very successful in other areas in reducing criminality and anti-social behaviour, It will provide practical intervention work and financial resources within the local community. The plan is an opportunity for all the agencies to work directly with the community.
