Sinn Féin Councillor Sinéad Ennis has offered her congratulations to the Down Senior ladies team and management on their magnificent Ulster Championship Final win against Fermanagh on Sunday. Speaking following the teams victory, Cllr Ennis said: “I have requested that the Newry & Mourne District Council and the Mayor mark this momentous achievement by hosting a celebratory reception for the team and their management. “Having been part of the Down team who missed out on an Ulster Championship in 2013, I am particularly delighted that the girls have re-dedicated themselves to clinching an Ulster title and that all the hard work and team building over recent years has paid off.” “Women’s football is the fastest growing sport on the island and we are lucky to have such a wealth of talented footballers in Down. The girls will now be looking towards September and will hope to make it to Croke Park and an All-Ireland Final. I would ask that the council and all fellow Gael’s in the county get behind the girls and support them in their endeavors.”
