Drumaness Mills Enjoy Emphatic Win Over Rivals Crumlin Star In League Tussle
The NAFL League Division 1,
Venue: Meadowvale, Saturday 9th November 2024,
Final Score: Drumaness Mills 6 1 Crumlin Star.
Drumaness Mills welcomed Crumlin Star to Meadowvale and hit them for six with a very powerful performance in the second half after a tight first half where both sides chased and harried and competed for every single ball writes Cyril McKinney.
In the first half both sides had plenty of possession but could not find a way through tight defences until Drumaness took the lead on 23 minutes following some great interplay involving Eopin Murray and Declan Looney who set up Adam Kearney with a deft flick and he made no mistake when going one-on-one with Crumlin keeper Ciaran McNeill.
At 47 minutes into the second period, Drumaness blew the opposition away with some great football and three unanswered goals.
Firstly Declan Looney was on hand in front of goal to finish a great left wing run and cross from Adam Kearney just two minutes after the restart.
Then in 57 minutes Jack Sharvin scored with a low left foot shot from the left side of the box past the despairing dive of McNeill in the Crumlin nets to make it 3-0.
Four minutes later it got even better for Mills when Adam Kearney won the ball back in his own half before sending Declan Looney clear down the right channel and as he entered the Crumlin box he had the presence of mind to square the ball finding Stephen Kennedy storming in who made no mistake from six yards to make it 4-0.
Try as they might Crumlin could not create anything clear cut and were caught out again after 67 minutes when Declan Looney got free on the left edge of the Crumlin Box and as cut in on his right foot fiing home past a wrong footed McNeill to a huge roar from the home support to make it 5-0.
To their credit Crumlin kept pressing and got a goal back on 82 minutes through Nathan Watters who bundled home a shot at the second attempt from a right wing cross to make it 5-1.
Drumaness completed the scoring in the dying minutes through substitute Aaron Mooney who reacted quickly to a rebound off keeper McNeill who had saved a Looney penalty.
6-1 was a fair reflection of a really good Drumaness Mills performance right across the pitch and some great free flowing football. By the end of this game the home support were ecstatic and shouted for more goals!
