DCHC Meeting To Address Health Issues On Draft PfG

The Down Community Health Committee has a discussion on the draft Programme for Government

The next meeting of the Down Community Health Committee (DCHC) will address a key item that affects us all… the Programme for Government (PfG) out for consultation by the NI Executive.

The meeting will be held on Monday 23rd September at 7.30pm in Denvir’s Hotel in English Street, Downpatrick. Everyone is welcome to attend.

DCDC Chair Eamonn McGrady said: “Top of the agenda will be the implications of the recently released Programme for Government from the Northern Ireland Executive and the likely implications for healthcare provision especially in the local area.

The Down Community Health Committee still has its focus the restoration of the 24/7 A&E at the Downe Hospital in Downpatrick.

“There will also be a discussion concerning the situation in terms of emergency care provision in the emergency department at the Downe Hospital and also at the Ulster Hospital, matters which have been of significant media interest in recent times and are an ongoing cause of serious concern across the mid east Down area.

“The future strategy of the Down Community Health Committee will also be discussed in dealing with matters of outreach to the wider community and how the wider campaign group can extend its active membership.

“The community in South and Est Down is becoming increasingly concerned at the failure of the Health Trust and the Department of Health to restone a 24/7 emergency service at the Downe Hospital,” Mr McGrady added:

Anne Trainor, prominent campaigner for local services, said: “Hardly a week goes by when we do not hear of another report of unsatisfactory service in terms of delays in ambulance response times or unacceptable delays at the Ulster Hospital Emergency Department.

“These issues need to be addressed.

“The community is extremely anxious, and many people are of the view that now is the time to bring our campaign back onto the streets. It is time for politicians to deliver.”

In a scathing front page attack on the NI Executive this morning, the Irish News has blamed the Executive for dithering and producing a bland plan that took the four-party Executive seven months in the making. The paper further savaged the Executive on managing its finances.
