Castlewellan Senior Hurlers came back down to earth with a bump this week in their Ulster League Division 4 game against St Mary’s Rasharkin at the Antrim venue. The lads were completely outclassed when falling to a score line of 4-20 to 2-2. It spells out the work the Town need to do in order to progress in this division. This defeat and the manner of it will have hurt them. I am sure The Management Team and the lads will pick it up again for this week’s match. Castlewellan Seconds began the ACPRL1 campaign against our old rivals Bryansford in Newcastle on Sunday past. This game saw the return to action of Aidan Burns who has been out of action for the best part of two years with a series of unlucky injuries which has deprived him of football and The Town of his services. Two good things happen – Castlewellan won 1-14 to 1-7 and Aidan chipped in as if making up for lost time with a personal tally of 1-3. There were good performances from Mark Stratton, Paul McGrady, Matthew Stratton and Fearghal McLoughlin. A good start to the season and fantastic to see “Big Aidy” back. As stated last week we plan to hold a Cardiac Screening Event in the Club this month for our young players of all ages both male and female. Screening can to help prevent sudden deaths in young people. The cost of this screening is £35 per person. It only applies to 14-year olds plus. The full cost of £35 must be met by the individual but we would hope that parents/guardians/players would feel this is worthwhile. Again we wish to encourage our players over 14 through to Adult Teams to take part. Please let Miceal Crilly know of your interest. Miceal will get questionnaires which must be completed prior to the clinic and these can then be returned with £35. He will co-ordinate a date and booking of the clinic. Good luck to Aoife Keown, Ciara Gibson, Finola Rice Paidi Hawkins and Claire Cleland who will all be part of the Down U-16 Camogie Squad who take on Roscommon this Saturday in Mayobridge at 12.30pm in the All-Ireland -16 Camogie League The Under-10 Camogie Girls continue to put in a great effort at the Indoor league which took place last Saturday in the De La Salle in Downpatrick. They played a total of 4 games winning three of them and losing one. They played against Ballygalget A & B and the Liatriom Fontenoys A & B. An absolute fantastic effort by all the girls. Their coaches and parents are very pleased with the progress they are making. Several of our girls have been involved with the County Under-14 team this week. They took part in an Ulster Blitz at the Mid Ulster Sports Centre on Saturday. They were Becky White, Ashleen Connolly, Kate McAleenan, Anna Rogan and Clare Owens. Yoga will continue in the Club on Monday Nights at 7.30pm for all girls both playing Camogie and Football. Castlewellan GAC have teamed up with All-Tex Recyclers to raise much need club funds through clothing re-use. We need your unwanted clothes and household textiles. The more we collect the more money we raise to run our underage teams. This is a great opportunity for a clear out and to help your Club. All Club members and friends are encouraged to support this venture. Over the next few weeks fill as many black bin bags as you can. The deadline date is Tuesday 26 April 2011. Over the next week there will be a leaflet drop to Club members asking you to donate those clean clothes, shoes and handbags you do not use anymore. A reminder that the Down Race Day will take place on Sunday 27th March in Downpatrick. Tickets for this event can be obtained from Rory McCabe at a cost at £20.00 each. All members wishing to attend the event are encouraged to obtain their ticket from the Club. There will be a draw on the Race Day for 40 pairs of match tickets for the first round of the Ulster Senior Championship against old rivals Armagh. All coaches and mentors of our underage teams are reminded once again that they must complete the Access NI forms. The forms can be obtained from the Club. Please pass those forms to Miceal Crilly as soon as possible. U-16 and U-14 Camogie training will take place at the Bann Road Complex on Tuesday nights from 5.15pm. Under-8, 10 and 12 Camogie will continue in St Malachy’s Primary School on Tuesday’s from 6.30pm. The indoor hurling continues on Thursday nights in St Malachy’s Primary School.
