New Nahinch Notes concert series announced for Ballynahinch
Ballynahinch Community Collective have announced a new music project under the banner “Nahinch Notes” which will hold a series of concerts with the best of Northern Irish talent in the town.
Opening on 20th September with the up-and-coming young singer-songwriter from Downpatrick Charlie Hanlon, Nahinch Notes promises to light up the town’s nights with a mix of genres, from hip hop to jazz, folk rock to blues.
“We are delighted to bring this project into the heart of the town.
“It’s a new activity for the Collective, and a new type of event for Ballynahinch, with the finest local musicians coming to play for us here at Harry’s Place in the Market House,” said Gareth Gordon, chair of the Community Collective.
The list of artists lined up to grace the stage in the Market House includes blues powerhouse The 2:19 (nominated for Band of the Year at the 2023 UK Blues Awards), and Belfast rap dynamo Leo Miyagee (with multiple nominations at the NI Music Prize, including BBC Artist of the Year, Best Album, and Live Act).
And folk rock monsters Tartan Riot (a unique 5 piece that blends traditional Irish will be performing and Scottish folk music with contemporary rock and pop classics), and jazz improvisers Pepperoni Hug Spot (who promise to cook up tunes on the spot, fuelled by a whirlwind of visual and text prompts, in testament to the magic of improvisation).
The acclaimed singer Kate Nicholson (with a voice described as “simultaneously warm, gritty and enthralling”, and nominated for the NI Music Prize Best Album in 2022) will also be highlighting the music extravaganza.
Thanks to support from Newry Mourne and Down District Council, the concerts will be free and open to all ages and tickets can be reserved on the Nahinch Notes Eventbrite page.
The Collective is also inviting any aspiring local musicians to get in touch if they are interested in helping out with the project or in playing.

The Ballynahinch Community Collective has been staging the annual Christmas Lights Switch-on and the Halloween party, among multiple other activities, in the town for many years.
It is a registered charity, and recently made a call for new volunteers to join its ranks and expand the range of activities it can host.
Gareth Gordon, the new chair of the Ballynahinch Community Collective, is a native of County Down who recently returned to NI after many years abroad.
