Clanmil Housing recently approached primary school students in the Ballynahinch area to take part in a competition to name its new family housing development on Dromore Street in the town.
Pupils from St Patrick’s Primary, Ballynahinch Primary and Drumlins Integrated School took up the challenge to find an original name that reflects the area surrounding Dromore Street.
The pupils came up with many innovative and creative suggestions. The winning name, “Ballyriver Walk” was suggested by Calvin Rice from St Patrick’s Primary School referencing the river that runs through the town.
Calvin won an iTunes voucher for his creativity in naming the scheme. Runners up Tiarnan Quinn, also from St Patrick’s Primary School, Amy McMaster, of Ballynahinch Primary School, and Andrew Kelly, of Drumlins Integrated also received vouchers for their efforts. The vouchers were provided by Clanmil and their contractor, Kelly Brothers Ltd.
Over £3 million has been invested in the new development, including £1.2 million in grant support from the Department for Communities.
The new development includes 24 contemporary apartments, a retail unit, private roof terraces, on-site parking for tenants and some garages.
Work on the new homes has finished ahead of time, and they have already been handed over to the tenants.
Pauline Johnston, Clanmil Development Manager, presented Calvin with prize. She said: “We are delighted by the interest the children have shown in our development and very impressed by the standard and range of names suggested.
“Calvin has come up with the perfect name for the scheme and we’re delighted to see families settling into these lovely new homes. We hope they have a very merry Christmas at Ballyriver Walk and many more happy years to come.”
