The room was packed, everyone had had a breakfast cuppa and a scone and Ryan Hand of Hand Made Media Productions was ready for action.
Explaining his new company making marketing videos for local businesses at the breakfast meeting, he declared that he had only been two months in business and already had found a few local businesses keen to promote themselves with a video on You Tube or Vimeo. Ryan had previously worked at the BBC for ten years, and in his spare time he is a stand-up comedian!

I can help give anyone’s business a lift. My latest video recently was for Nicky’s Cafe which is receiving plenty excellent traffic with 1200 views already,” said Ryan.
“Hand Made Media Production can cover your business or an aspect of it or even a product. The key incredient to the success of a video is that the business itself has to promote it proactively through its own social media and encourage their followers also to spread it through their systems.
“So Facebook and Twitter would be the first choices but people use may other platforms such as Pinterest, Snap Chat, Bebo, and Instagram and many more.
“Facebook is particularly effective as you can boost a post or take out a sponsored story on it and this helps again to drive it towards becoming truly viral.”
Ryan showed the audience a recent video he made for the Hutt Hostel providing accomodation for the coming Irish Open whose owner owns the Anchor Bar and Brunel’s Restaurant in Newcastle. It was about identifying the business assets and using the strengths of the area. We took promotional shots in Castlewellan Forest Park, Â the Granite Trail and other scenic places and included lively music in the background.”
Ryan explained that the cost of making a video can be anything from £0-60 an hour and can take on average around 20-25 hours to make.
He said: “We can also edit you own videos and put the selected pieces together if cost is an problem. Generally a short promotional video is quite effective and these can last from one to three minutes. Our aim is to make them as professional as possible.”
There was a lively question and answer session and Janice Symington, business manager of the Down Business Centre responsible for managing the Beyond programme, thanked Ryan Hand for his breakfast presentation and explained further sessions taking place through the Beyond business programme.
