Your Rates Bill Is In The Post

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Ratepayers to receive rate bills soon.

Land & Property Services (LPS) is beginning to issue rates’ bills to homes and businesses in the Newry Mourne and Down District Council area.

There are currently around 78,000 ratepayers in the Newry, Mourne and Down District Council area. The bill will outline the amount due for 2019/20, any debt from previous years that has not been paid and gives details of any rate relief which applies to your account.

Each domestic ratepayer will receive an information leaflet with their bill. This will highlight how the money collected will be invested in vital public services such as healthcare, education and roads as well as helping to fund council services, including recreational facilities, building control, bin collection, tourism and local events.

Newry, Mourne and DownDistrictCouncil Chief Executive, Liam Hannaway said: “Our Council is continuing to deliver on the services and key projects that have been agreed in our Corporate Plan. Key projects for this year include progressing a new conference, theatre and civic centre in Newry City, the development of the old police station site in Downpatrick and a 10-year programme of economic growth.

“As well, the Council is continuing to improve public services and has agreed ambitious performance objectives for this year, including encouraging healthy lifestyles, promoting the district as a premier tourist destination, delivering urban and rural regeneration initiatives, and creating a cleaner, greener district.”

Domestic ratepayers can receive 4% discount if they pay their bill in full on or before 10th May 2019. A range of reliefs and entitlements are available to help ratepayers including Lone Pensioner Allowance, Rate Rebate and Landlord allowances. Full details can be found at: www.nidirect.gov.uk/rates.
