Averil Milligan, Head Gardener said: “Plants respond to triggers, things like changes in daylight length and temperature send signals to the plant to change growth habits. Autumn is a fabulous time to move plants when the soil is still warm and the growing season is closing down. Plants get a chance to settle down with as little stress as possible and will grow on without the check next spring”.
Gardens in autumn have a special charm all of their own and Rowallane, the beautiful National Trust garden in Saintfield, is gearing up for the season. Wrap up and come along and enjoy the magnificent garden and browse through the stalls at the Plant Fair in Rowallene Gardens on Saturday 24 September from 11am-4pm.
Plants grown at the famous garden will be available for sale with a mixture of herbaceous perennials, herbs and alpines propagated from the garden. Browse through the specialist plant stalls and glean some gardening hints and tips from our expert gardening team.
Normal admission and National Trust Members free.
