Uniform Grants And Free School Meals Available To Working Parents

dn_screenCouncillor Carmel O’Boyle (SDLP) has encouraged parents on working tax credit to apply for free school meals, uniform and PE clothing allowances, following a change in assessment criteria.

Cllr Carmel O’Boyle said: “Previously those receiving working tax credits were not eligible for clothing grants or school meals for secondary school children. From September these criteria will change. There is only one application form to be completed and this can be done online or by contacting the South Eastern Education and Library Board for a form.

“I would urge parents to apply now and not wait until September, so that their entitlement can be identified and processed as quickly as possible. Times remain tough for parents, and back to school time can be particularly costly. Hopefully this support will help lift some of the pressure from mums hardworking mums and dads.”
