Christmas Cheer Over The New Year On The Chris Scott Show

The Chris Scott Show on FM105 Down Community Radio broadcasts not only to the local Downpatrick area and surrounding districts but online across the world.

The highlights of the programme are available online across various platforms, after the show’s weekly broadcast. This year there have almost been 1000 downloads. Approximately one fifth of listeners on the podcasts are from the USA!

Throughout the year Chris has given a platform to many local artists, musicians, poets and community groups. The show also hosted several radio plays, written and performed for local radio by the Castlewellan Studio Players.

Chris secured an interview with one of British Ice Hockey’s former leading player Colin Shields earlier in the year, and recently he interviewed Marcia Barrett who was with the 1970’s pop group Boney M.

The fun and frolics continue on the show throughout the festive season. The show is broadcast each Wednesday night from 7 – 8pm and repeats each Sunday 8 – 9pm.

This Wednesday (15th December, 2021) Chris is in conversation with Killyleagh singer and songwriter, Conal Montgomery, talking about his new Christmas release – Promises (Refusing Hate and Lies). You will have a chance to hear this track on the show.

Later on in the show Chris is also in conversation with singer/songwriter Michelle Magee originally from Killeavy, Newry. She talks to Chris about her single Christmas in Ireland, which is also featured on the show.

Chris then heads across to Kilkeel to speak with talented artist, Melissa McKee, about twelve of her magnificent paintings, depicting the area of the Mournes, which are now available in calendar format for 2022!

Each of the three guests will be sharing their early memories of Christmas……and yes someone did get a bag of coal once!! Tune in to find out more.

Later in the programme the Castlewellan Studio Players return with the final Episode in series 2 of The Adventures of Jonathan No Middle Name Jackson!! This has been written for local radio by Anthony McFadden and performed by members of the Players.

On Wednesday 22nd December, 2021  Chris is in conversation with Downpatrick residents, Rita McLaughlin and Dermot Giles, to talk about their early memories of Christmas. Rita is a volunteer with Good Morning Down and Dermot is a recipient of this excellent service. Dermot talks exclusively about his memories of Christmas 1938!!

Chris also catches up with singer/songwriter Andrew McMurdie from Poyntzpass. He talks to Chris about the past 12 months of his life which have proved to be a rollercoaster – from lows to highs.

On Wednesday 29th December, 2021 Chris is joined on the show by Killyleagh’s Neil Foster. Neil trained as a pianist and percussionist working across contemporary and classical music. He talks about his early career including performing around Europe with leading orchestras and ensembles, including the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra.

Neil also chats about his work as a music therapist and also his compositions which are described as “cinematic, expansive, colourful music inspired by dreams, landscapes, horizons and spaces of all kinds, bringing elements together through intuitive experimentation He uses pianos, synths, vocals, percussion, and sound samples which include local bird calls, the ocean, radio static, mountain wind, voices and urban noise.”

Rocking on through the years – Rockabilly style!! – Graham Fenton, Matchbox on the Chris Scott Show, FM105 Down Community Radio

On Wednesday 5th January 2022 you can rock on through the years – Rockabilly Style. Chris secured an interview with Graham Fenton from the Rockabilly group – Matchbox.

Matchbox had five Top 40 hits in the late 1970 / early 1980 period with Rockabilly Rebel, Buzz Buzz A Diddle It, Midnite Dynamos, When You Ask About Love and Over the Rainbow.

Graham talks about his early introduction to music, playing with Gene Vincent and other Rock ‘n’ Roll stars, appearances on Top of the Pops, travelling on planes with Motorhead and Madness….and lots of other memories and stories!!
