Trees of Kilbroney Park On Display At Exhibition

Newry Mourne and Down District Council will host an exhibition of artworks on the Trees of Kilbroney from Friday 5 October to Monday 29 October 2018 in the Carroll Gallery, Sean Hollywood Arts Centre, Newry.

‘’The Shadow of the Larch’ by Jasper McKinney. On display in the Carroll Gallery, Sean Hollywood Arts Centre, as part of the Trees of Kilbroney exhibition.

The exhibition accompanies the publication of an art book that celebrates the Trees of Kilbroney, published by Light 2000 Community Group in Rostrevor. The book was inspired by the group winning the Northern Ireland Tree of the Year Competition in 2016 and achieving sixth place in the European Competition in 2017.

Council Chairman Councillor Mark Murnin said: “It was a real coup to have a tree from Kilbroney Park succeed in the Northern Ireland Tree of the Year competition in 2016. It is a real pleasure that we are able to host an exhibition of the art book and artwork inspired by the trees of Kilbroney. I would urge people to go and see this beautifully produced book and artworks inspired by our district’s glorious trees.”

The book was produced with the aid of a grant from the Woodland Trust, further grants from Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, Heritage Lotteries Trust, and sponsorship from local businesses.

Artwork on display in Sean Hollywood Arts Centre include a piece of tapestry by retired legal secretary Kathleen Carville; an abstract by Frances O’Reilly; a digital work by well- known artist Jasper McKinney; a collage by Australian artist Meredith Russell as well as more traditional representation works by Victor and Heather Cirefice, Seamus Collins and Moya Murphy. In addition to the artworks and book on display, a number of limited edition prints may be purchased.
