John  said: “I feel very privileged to have been selected to fill Colin McGrath’s seat on Newry, Mourne and Down District Council. I have been truly overwhelmed by the support from the party and from the local community since my selection. I hope to repay all those who’ve shown faith in me.

“It is also a great honour to follow in the footsteps of my grandfather Sean Quinn and mother Anne Trainor who both served as representatives on the old legacy Down District Council. A record of public service runs deep in my blood and I hope to live up to the high standard they both set serving the great community in Downpatrick and the greater Lecale area.

“Colin and his predecessors have left a huge legacy. There are significant challenges ahead for our communities but I hope to meet those, with the support of local people and with our excellent team of councillors. It’s a great honour to be part of that team.”
