Tourism Event For Killeavy Castle

Information Day for Tourism Industry Comes to Killeavy Castle.

Newry Mourne and Down District Council is holding its annual Mountains, Myths and Maritime tourism industry day on Wednesday 26 June at Killeavy Castle Estate. The event runs from 9.30-2.30pm.

Council Chairperson, Councillor Charlie Casey, right, with Jason Foody, General Manager of Killeavy Castle, this year’s venue for the Mountains, Myths and Maritime Tourism Industry Day.

This event is designed to promote growth in the tourism industry and to share expertise in developing EPIC adventures to help the district become the premier, year-round destination in Ireland.

Newry Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Charlie Casey, said: “Growing tourism in our area is a key priority of the Council’s Corporate Plan. The Mountains, Myths and Maritime tourism industry day will be a fantastic opportunity for every tourism business in our region to learn about what is happening in the industry and how to maximise their business.”

The venue for this year’s tourism industry day is the district’s newest tourist and hospitality destination—Killeavy Castle. The Castle, which sits at the foot of Slieve Gullion, overlooking the mountains of Mourne, dates back to the early 1800s and was designed to resemble Gosford Castle.

The industry day will provide an opportunity for local tourism businesses to hear from Tourism NI’s Chief Executive John McGrillen, who will speak about growing tourism together. Other speakers include Rosie-Marie McHugh from Tourism NI and Sinead Murray from Tourism Ireland who will talk about promoting Northern Ireland overseas. Nuala Devlin Saul from Brack Tours will also speak about collaboration and knowing your market and Mags Byrne will be advising how businesses can tell their story using social media.

As well as providing tips on how to increase tourism growth, this will be an excellent opportunity for businesses to network with other industry partners and businesses throughout the region.
