Three Men Arrested In Castlewellan Following Shotgun Find By Police

dn_screenPolice have arrested three men aged 20, 26 and 41, on suspicion of possession of a firearm in suspicious circumstances following the recovery of a shotgun on the Castlewellan Road in Newcastle in the early hours of Sunday 21 June.

Inspector Lynsey Barr said: “A passing police patrol noticed the men acting suspiciously at around 2am on Sunday morning, and after an examination of the area where they had been standing, a shotgun was discovered which had been concealed in a hedge.

“The three men were arrested a short time later and taken into custody where they remain assisting with enquiries. At this stage we are investigating a link between this incident and a burglary at a nearby property and I would ask anyone with any information to contact detectives at Downpatrick on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Police update: @11am Monday 22 June 2015.

Three men aged 41, 26 and 20 are due to appear at Downpatrick Magistrates court this morning charged with burglary and firearms offences.

The charges follow the seizure of a shotgun by police on Castlewellan Road, Newcastle during the early hours of Sunday 21st June.

As is usual procedure the charges will be reviewed by the PPS.
