The Last #Post – A Poem By Mark Gibbons

by Mark Gibbons.

He’s gone my friends, we can all relax. Stand proud Facebook, Twitter and Texts. For the news that I have will be all in good stead, I am happy to say that the letter is dead.

Goodbye to the tears that fell onto your page, That brought stories of sadness, love and rage. And the kiss of a letter with delicate fashion, That told tales of longing, lust and passion.

So long to the letters that travelled the seas, You brought families and businesses onto their knees, With death, despair, anguish and glee, But the letter’s mission accomplished with ease.

Farewell to the bottle with the letter inside, In search of a saviour with help from the tide. It reaches the shore and slowly sinks in the sand, to aid the starvation a death of a man.

And as you lie in your grave your friends will mourn, The stamp is crying, the envelope’s torn. They cannot believe they have lost such a friend, as they try and comfort the grieving pen.

So to E mails, Facebook, Twitter and Texts, If you could kindly stand and show your respects, and stand together as we make a toast, to the death of the mail, the letter, the Post.old-letters-pen-still-life-17865886-1
