Festivalof of Flight programme Councillor Dermot Curran, Down District Council Chairman said, “Events on this major scale are known to give an instant and dramatic boost to visitor numbers but, just as important, research and experience show us that many of those who come to Newcastle specifically for the festival will either prolong their stay or return to enjoy our other attractions. “We can therefore expect our investment in the festival to bring economic benefits far beyond the festival week itself.” The music concert incorporated into this year’s Festival of Flight is the culmination of a number of events planned by Northern Ireland’s biggest listened to commercial radio station, Cool FM, to help celebrate 21 years of broadcasting. “Cool FM is celebrating its 21st birthday this year in style,” added Eddie West, Programme Controller with Cool FM. “The concert is part of a year long calendar of events planned to mark 21 years of bringing Northern Ireland close to great music. “Cool FM is Northern Ireland’s most listened to commercial radio station with 376,000 people tuning in each week. We’re very excited to be bringing this major event to Newcastle.” [caption id="attachment_25607" align="alignright" width="300" caption="Irish girl group Wonderland are performing on Day 1 of One Cool Weekend"][/caption] On Saturday August 6th the Festival of Flight runs from 12 noon to 5pm, with the music concert running from 5pm to 11pm.
