Teconnaught Too Strong For Visitors Dundrum

Teconnaught GAC in a home match overpower Dundrum

Final Score: Teconnaught 4-20 1-9 Dundrum.

Teconnaught were is dazzling form as they faced visitors Dundrum in this Division 4 clash. As the teams lined up for the starting throw-in, the players must have have a real good feeling of playing on such a well manicured pitch.

Teconnaught man Paul ‘Chops’ Brennan has nurtured the pitch and it is in excellent condition, taking pride in the impressive grass surface and ensuring the markings were done to perfection for the match, something all the players really appreciate.

In the first minute Teconnaught started the scoring with a point in play from Patrick Grant. But Dundrum rallied quickly with an equaliser by Ruairi Carey.

Then Teconnaught went up a gear and scored again through Tomas Murphy followed by a goal at close quarters by Andy McCartan.

Teconnaught too added another point traded with a point for the visitors. And Thomas Napier nipped another point to start the scoring landslide.

Then as Teconnaught upped the pressure, Grant had a strong run through the Dundrum defence and passed to McCartan who again took his goal well. Minutes later Teconnaught were another point up and basically running over Dundrum who were managing to make some attacks but faced a staunch Teconnaught defence.

There wwre more points from Grant and Josh Smyth as the score started to soar. But fair play to Dundrum, they kept their nerve and dug deep and pulled back a point with a good play from Patrick Curry to Aidan Finnegan.

Grant was having a good game and sent the ball over the Dundrum sticks from a free followed by another point from Ross Green.

Dundrum actually managed to stay in touch when they collected a goal from a good run by Ciaran Walsh but they were still 5 points adrift.

A sharp pass from Smyth saw Grant left-foot the ball for another point for Teconnaught. Then Josh Smyth took an excellent goal for the home side ramping up the score followed by a point from Tomas Murphy.

But Dundrum kept at it and found a point as Chris Mulholland kicked over.

The coffin nail came when Grant scored Teconnaught’s 4th goal after holding possession and passing well around the Dundrum defenders and Daniel Napier found a space and made no mistake as he hammered the ball home.

And just before half-time, Grant and McCartan both pointed leaving the half-time score at 4-09 to 1-07.

The second half started with a quick attack by Teconnaught collecting another point by Daniel Napier. And a minute later Grant passed to Ross Green in front of goal who tried to deflect in over his head but keeper Eamonn King managed to push the ball out.

Tomas Murphy clocked up another point for the homeside and a short time later Josh Smyth was almost through the defenders but was blocked at the last kick for a goal.

Teconnaught took another point comfortably and then midfielder Anthony Davis scored. Teconnaught were putting Dundrum under real pressure. Davis had another good run and pointed. The a minute later Oisin Casement worked his way through the Dundrum defenders and got close to the goal-mouth but was denied in his final kick.

Teconnaught were looking very comfortable and passing well and accurately with confidence and after a couple of attacks with wides, Oisin casement scored again. Then sub Eamonn McKinney nabbed a point.

As the game was winding up, Oisin again struck this time with a double pointer and Harry Smyth followed up with another point too. Daniel Napier and Harry Smyth scored in the closing stages of the match.

This was a very strong performance by Teconnaught who were thoroughly enjoying their rub of the green on a pitch well manicured by Chops Brennan.

Dundrum were outclassed but never-the less did have a few good runs and some near misses which could have turned the game in the early stages. But the Teconnaught steamroller was on this occasion unstoppable.
