Down Business Connect Members enjoy a presentation from Support IT NI
At the monthly meeting of Down Business Connect in Denvir’s Hotel in Downpatrick, Support IT NI made a presentation to the business members drawing out the services their company provides and setting out guidance for good IT practice.
DBC chair Brendan Kearney welcomed managing director Richard Gawith who explained what his business does and how it helps local businesses stay ahead in their IT strategy and operations.
He said: “We are Downpatrick based, and since our set up in 2015, we offer a range of services to support local businesses and organisations mainly in the area of IT security. Our range of customers run from coffee shops to warehouses.
“‘Everything we do basically runs off of Miscrosoft 365 and through cloud storage. We find that there are lots of layers of pretty nasty stuff out there to block to keep your system safe.
“With this in mind, we also do a lot of IT training so your staff are up to speed with the techniques required to keep your businesses safe.
“We can do phishing simulations, and look at cyber essentials to prevent hacking and disruption to your IT system.
“This may entail data management and doing audits to ensure everything is ticking over nicely.”
Richard added that Support NI supplies ready to use devices that are price checked against Curry’s which are suitable for your business needs.
“It is therefore important to keep threats away from your devices and that basically means necessary training, building security platforms and encryption.
“Managing passwords is often a major problem for small businesses and many people keep them in a small book in their desk drawer which is counterproductive. We can train your staff up in keychain security methods which will help to keep you network safe and secure.
“And if your router is more than five years old the firmware is likely not performing well and this creates a network security window for hackers. Small businesses may be OK but larger concerns such as hotels can be problematic. So it is important to have an effective cloud backup for your data.
“So if you have any IT concerns, we are happy to look at that for you through our managed IT and IT for Charities programmes, and support for networks and wi-fi systems.”
