Sun Shines On Cormac MacMullan's Captain's Day

Despite the excellent conditions, scoring was not all that high compared to some years and possibly pin positions may even have had something to do with this. Speaking before the evening presentation, Cormac said, “Today has been a terrific day for our members. I think a record number managed to play. The first fourball went out after 6am. It was certainly an early start but the champagne breakfast helped it along on its way.”

“> The club’s low handicap golfers too just managed to reach one under the standard scratch which suggests the course was holding its own despite the deceptively good conditions. Daniel Vaughn on 69 and Raymond Madine on 71 were out to enjoy their game knowing that they had to go out again on Sunday and play two games in the Senior Cup to get into the semi-finals (which they did!). Cormac said during his presentation speech, “On the day £2362 was raised for the  Captain’s Charities – Multiple Sclerosis Society and Think Pink. This is an excellent sum in support of these much much deserved organisations. Today we managed to put out 268 players on the course and this was truly a day for the members. “The course was in perfect order and all credit must go to John Moore and his ground staff who have done an excellent job. My thanks to too all at the club – Gerard Sands and his team in the kitchen, Debbie and her staff and the bar staff for their great service throughout the day.” Speaking after the presentation, Captain’s Day winner  fire fighter Martin Healy who plays off a 14 handicap said, “I just had a steady game and tried not to make any serious mistakes.  I managed to get 20 points in the front nine and was in with a chance from there. I came in strongly in the back nine with 24 points which included two birdies – one on the 13th and another on the 15th. “On the 11th hole I was hitting three off the tee when I lost a ball but managed to recover well. The course was in lovely order and well done to John and all the green staff for their attention to detail.” The Full Results for Cormac MacMullan’s Captain’s Day [caption id="attachment_25697" align="alignright" width="267" caption="Ardglass Golf Club Captain Cormac MacMullan enjoying the sun on his big day."][/caption]
