Stormont Speaker Marks Death Of Sir John Gorman

The Speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly, Mr William Hay MLA, has expressed his sadness at the death of Sir John Gorman, who lived in Killyleagh, xa0a leading Catholic politician who had a distinguished war record.

Speaker Hay said: “I was sorry to learn of the passing of Sir John Gorman.dn_screen

“The constant theme through Sir John’s life was one of public service and dedication to the community in a variety of significant roles from military service through to being elected like me as a Member of the Assembly in 1998.

“Sir John was an affable and thoughtful character but as a Deputy Speaker he attracted the same huge respect across the entire Chamber as he did in the community.

“I express my sincere condolences on behalf of the whole Assembly to his family and friends.”
