As the outgoing upper sixth students begin their journey into University, Further Education or the World of Work, School Principal Mrs Sheila Darling and staff of St Mary’s High, Downpatrick wished them every success for the future.

The number of St Mary’s girls proceeding to University exceeds the NI average for similar schools, a trend which has been typical for the past few years. This year the students have secured places in Universities in Northern Ireland and across the UK studying a wide range of courses such as English, Maths and Computer Science to name but a few.

Some students have enrolled closer to home and will be continuing their studies at FE colleges such as SERC and Belfast Metropolitan College beginning their journey toward degree awards in, for example, Travel and Tourism, Health Sciences and Art and Design.

Some students, having decided they wanted to go directly into work have secured jobs across a range of employment sectors, such as Health, Business administration, Customer relations and Retail sales and Management.

The school works closely with employers and is delighted to have secured apprentice placements for St Mary`s students.

The Principal advised the students to continue to bring a “can do attitude” to all their future challenges. Mrs Darling noted a positive attitude coupled with hard work, clear focus and a determination to succeed would be instrumental in helping every student be the best they can be.
