The walking group’s first venture of the year was to Murlough on Saturday 9 January. With the tide fully in we kept to the dunes and returned along the inner bay getting back to the Twelve Arches car park about two hours after we started. The hail had stopped but there was still heavy rain when we started but this passed to give some excellent views out to sea and to the Mournes. The last time we went to Murlough we encountered cows on the beach under blue skies – this time we were under the watchful gaze of seals.

Next up is a trip to County Louth on Saturday 23 January. Our bus will leave the club at 9.00am and take us to Omeath. From there we will walk along the Greenway along the old railway line to Carlingford. We will lunch at the Four Seasons and then take in a tour at the Cooley Whiskey Visitors Centre before being bussed back to the club. The cost will be £10 for the bus plus cost of whiskey tasting and tour.xa0This trip is open to everyone, including those who wish to skip the walking part. To book your place contact Kevin McGlynn on 078 3596 0804 or:
