St John’s GAC Drumnaquoile Notes For 22/4/19

The  U14’s girls travelled to Glenn on Saturday for a change of fixture so we don’t have to play on Easter Sunday writes Geraldine Flynn.

It was a Lovely day for football, drinking iced water and eating ice lollies at half-time. We faced a very strong Glenn team with the score at half time 2.7 to 1.4, for us just two kicks of the ball in it.

It was in the second half where our girls played the best football that I have seen in two years at U-14 level.

The determination from Mollie Rose and Cara in and around the midfield was a joy to watch. Katie dropped back into half-back where her and Cara fought hard to win a lot of possession and drive forward. Marie Clarie and Grace had a great first half but the heat tired both of them and in the second half Meabh came off the bench and won some great ball off her taller opponent. Size is of no consideration to Meabh and she will engage any player.

Committee Member Cormac McMullan with Gavin Grant of Grant Bros Developments Ltd who sponsored the Match Ball.

Gracie was in great form dominating that forward line and the scores and assists from her and Shauna just kept chipping away into a stronger lead. Orla was outstanding in the half forward line and at 12 years of age you would have thought she was one of our older players.

The management were so pleased with the second half performance playing as a team and not as individuals.

We held Glenn to one score in the second half but it wasn’t for their lack of effort, they just couldn’t get their shots on target as our Backs surrounded them.

Final score 3.13 to 2.4. Training next Thursday for 14’s and 16’s at 6.30- 7.30pm

The Committee would like to thank Gavin Grant from Grant Bros Developments Ltd for sponsoring this week’s match ball.
