St Bronagh's GAA Notes For 15 February 2015

Club Notes by Mark Gibbons. SCÓR 2014/2015 ANNE-MARIE AND BALLAD GROUP SEAL SOUTH-DOWN FINAL SPOTS By Kieran McNally A weekend of Scór Sinsear competitions marked the re-commencement of Rostrevor’s quest to gain county honours for Scór in 2015. Despite a strong showing at Scór na nÓg, the emphasis has shifted very quickly to the senior competitors in trying to ensure that the club claims at least one county honour for the seventeenth consecutive year and progress has been made! Anne-Marie Mulholland; Down champion from 2013, in Solo Singing and the Ballad Group both qualified for the South Down final in a fortnight’s time and will be hopeful of further progression in the coming weeks. Unfortunately, we lost Matthew McGrath from this year’s competition; also in Solo Singing, despite a strong performance. Congratulations and best wishes to the Ballad Group and to Anne-Marie Mulholland in the South Down final! Billy & PJ If anyone is wanting to book the Social Club for an event, please do so through Billy Mc Swiggin. Also, if anyone is wanting to book Pettit Park Hall for Birthdays etc, please do so through PJ Farrell. Let’s Help Patrick Please have a read about this little man from a well known family in the village – all support is greatly appreciated by the Ó Dubháin/Jackson family to try and overcome such a debilitating illness in what is a heartbreaking time for his loved ones. My beloved grandson Patrick Joseph Jackson, was born in London last August, severely brain damaged due to a lack of oxygen. He has had an early diagnosis of quadriplegic cerebral palsy with dystonia. The costs of expert treatments and specialist equipment to help him over the next few years are substantial, and so we are launching an appeal through the charity “Tree of Hope”, which helps children like Patrick raise funds to pay for their rehabilitation and care needs. My son-in-law Ben is running London marathon on April 26th, Rós and Sósanna are running a 10km race in June in Rostrevor and the boys are organising musical events. As you can imagine, our family is heartbroken that this beautiful, much loved little boy has to face life with such injuries, and are determined to do whatever we can to help him. We are appealing to our friends to support us in this endeavour by making a donation, however small, to Tree of Hope and by passing on details of our appeal to others who might be interested in helping little Patrick in his struggle. Ben Jackson is fundraising on JustGiving for Tree of Hopewww.justgiving.comHelp Ben raise money for this great cause.
