Sports Minister Welcomes Key Appointments On Casement Park Project

The Sports Minister, Carál Ní Chuilín, has welcomed the appointment by the Ulster Council of the GAA (UCGAA) of key personnel to the Casement Park redevelopment project.

dn_screenRory Miskelly has been appointed as Project Director and will have day-to-day responsibility for the delivery of the project going forward, while Professor John Cole and Michael McGuckin have joined the Casement Park Project Board.

The Project Assessment Review (PAR), which was undertaken by the Cabinet Office at the request of DCAL, recommended the creation of these posts. Their report has been fully endorsed by DCAL and the UCGAA.

Welcoming the appointments, Minister Ní Chuilín said: “I am pleased with the appointment of Rory Miskelly to the Casement Park team at this critical stage in the project. He has played a key leadership role in the successful delivery of the Kingspan Stadium and Windsor Park over the past four years and he will bring a tremendous skill set to the Casement Park project.

“While he will be a loss to the Department, the wealth of knowledge and experience he brings will be highly beneficial for this project.

“The appointment of Professor John Cole and Michael McGuckin will strengthen the Casement Park Project Board and allow for greater levels of independent scrutiny. Both men have wide ranging public sector experience and I have no doubt that they will be a valuable asset to the overall Casement Park development.

“These appointments are another milestone in implementing the recommendations of the PAR report and in making the Casement Park project a reality. I wish each of them every success in their new roles.”
