Specsavers Downpatrick Mark Flood Anniversary

Specsavers Downpatrick marks flood anniversary with £100 voucher giveaway

One year on from the severe floods that impacted Downpatrick and its surrounding areas, Specsavers Downpatrick has marked the anniversary by celebrating community spirit with a special giveaway.

xa0The store recently ran a Facebook competition offering locals the chance to win a £100 Specsavers voucher, as a gesture of thanks for the resilience, kindness, and strength shown by the Downpatrick community over the past year.

In the last 12 months, Specsavers Downpatrick has not only recovered from the damage caused by the flood but has also expanded and enhanced its services to provide even greater care and support to returning and new customers.

Together, the team has a combined 100 years of experience and since reopening, the store has successfully delivered over 8,000 eye tests and has welcomed six new team members to strengthen its expert workforce.

xa0The winner of the competition was Briege Canavan from Crossgar. Briege was randomly selected from dozens of entries submitted by local residents sharing reflections and support for one another.

Jordan Jackson, store director at Specsavers Downpatrick, said: “The past year has shown just how strong the Downpatrick community is. The floods brought unimaginable disruption, but they also revealed the incredible spirit of our local people in Downpatrick.

“This competition was our way of saying thank you – not just to the winner, but to everyone who continues to support locally owned and run businesses within Downpatrick. We’re proud to be part of such a resilient and caring community.”

In response to the growing demand, the store has introduced a new eye test clinic, offering greater availability for customers, as well as expanded hearing clinics to provide more flexibility and accessibility.

Specsavers Downpatrick has also invested in brand new, state-of-the-art equipment across its pre-test room, eye testing rooms and laboratory, ensuring the highest standard of care.

Having received support from the local community themselves at the time of the flooding, the team at Specsavers Downpatrick are passionate about giving back to those in need, and since reopening, staff have started running Simon Community clinics in Downpatrick, to deliver free eye tests and glasses to people experiencing homelessness in the local area.

This was part of a UK-wide initiative by Specsavers to improve access to eye care for all and remove healthcare barriers for people experiencing homelessness.
