Social Housing Scheme For Newcastle Welcomed By Rogan

Rogan welcomes social housing scheme commencement for Newcastle. 

Sinn Féin MLA Emma Rogan has welcomed the commencement of social housing scheme to be built in Newcastle Co.Down at the former site of the Mourne Observer newspaper.

The South Down MLA said: “I welcome the works starting on site of this housing scheme. The scheme had been delayed due to COVID-19. Hopefully it will be completed and ready for tenants in early 2022.

“Given the levels of housing stress in the South Down area this development of social housing will be very much welcomed in the area.

“With the housing crisis only deepening, this will offer some hope to those on waiting lists but more still needs to be done to address housing inadequacies.”

Cllr Clarke commented: “Newcastle has one of the highest waiting lists in the Newry Mourne and Down District. I have campaigned for more social housing in this area for many years and welcome that this project is now progressing.'”
