THE Slieve Donard Resort and Spa in Newcastle, Co Down, has been named Best Irish Hotel at the Travel Media Awards which took place in the Westbury Hotel in Dublin.

The award acknowledge outstanding performance in the travel and tourism industry and consisted of 18 categories all voted for by the members of the Irish media.

Celebrating the Slieve Donard Resort and Spa’s success in being named the Best Irish Hotel at the Travel media Awards are Mohamed Abou Salek, Assistant Manager, Down District Council Chairman, Councilllor Mickey Coogan, and John Toner, General Manager.

John Toner, Director of Hastings Hotels and General Manager of Slieve Donard Resort and Spa, said he is delighted that the hotel has been recognised by media as the best in Ireland.

“We are thrilled to have received this prestigious award for Best Irish Hotel on 30 November. What makes tis award extra special is that it was voted for by the Irish Travel media, who have no doubt stayed in very best hotels throughout Ireland, so to be acknowledged by the these journalists is fantastic.

Down District Council Chairperson Mickey Coogan visited the Slieve Donard Resort and Spa to congratulate  John Toner and said: “It is a huge a very challenging feat to win this award. The Irish Media voted for the Slieve Donard as number one because of its outstanding performance in the travel and tourism industry. The results were independently collected and validated by the School of Hospitality management and Tourism at Dublin Institute of Technology.
