NI MEP Martina Anderson (Sinn Féin) is hosting a Breakfast Meeting in Newcastle this month in order to engage further with the local fishing community in South Down.
Aboard the prawn boat, the Alison Mary in Ardglass, earlier this summer checking out a single net trawl , are South Down MLA Chris Hazzard, Martina Anderson MEP, Councillor Liam Johnston and skipper Martin Rice.
Ms Anderson said: “As MEP, one of the most important communities I represent in the European Parliament is the fishing community.
“With the imposition of quotas from Europe, it is vital that I am constantly seeking the views of the people as MEP for the six counties that this has an affect on. That includes not just fishermen, but distributors, producers and even restaurants.
Ms Anderson added: “Its is for this reason that I want to invite all of these interested parties, from skippers and deckhands to shop owners and seafood restaurants to join me at this meeting and air their thoughts.”
The meeting is taking place in Hugh McCann’s on Newcastle on Wednesday 16 October, gathering at 8.30am.
