Sinn Féin Launch Health Manifesto

“We are seeking an end to the two tier health system and we will fight the ongoing Tory-led cuts to our healthcare system.xa0 Locally, we have challenged the North’s Health Minister Michael McGimpsey and xa0cuts in funding to the Downe Hospital. [caption id="attachment_23156" align="alignleft" width="400" caption="Launching their Sinn Féin health manifesto at the Downe Hospital in Downpatrick were local government election candidates with South Down candidates Willie Clarke, centre, and Naomi Bailie, third right. Included are Councillors Liam Johnston, Mickey Coogan, candidate Catriona Mackel, candidate Martin Rice and councillor Eamonn Mac Con Midhe."][/caption] “When the new Downexa0 hospital opened we were told it would have in place a range of services including a 24-hour consultant-led Accident and Emergency Unit, a day procedure unit, outpatient department, maternity, rehabilitation and diagnostics services. “A lack of funding has resulted in reduced beds and cuts in services at its Accident and Emergency department which is unacceptable. “This new 64 million pound hospital has the potential to provide the local community with access to a wide range of services, including a 24-hour consultant-led accident and emergency department. However, to achieve this, the Department of Health and the South eastern Health and Social Care Trust Trust must honor their commitments and fund these essential services. The launch last Friday of our party manifesto on health makes clear our commitment to ensuring everyone has a proper standard of healthcare. “The new Downe Hospital should ensure a range of services are available in what is a state-of-the-art building.”]]>
