Sinn Féin Concerned At Castlewellan Flooding

Sinn Féin advocates new measures to stop flooding of Castlewellan businesses.

Sinn Féin MLA Emma Rogan and Castlewellan Cllr Róisín Howell have advocated new measures should be put in place on Castlewellan main Street in order to combat flooding to local businesses.

Emma Rogan MLA said: “In Castlewellan we currently see that when there is high volumes of rainfall the main street of the town becomes severely affected.

“A number of weeks ago we saw this with a number of small businesses being flooded and having to close for the day, I think this is totally unacceptable and feel something has to be done.

“I will be in contact with the Department for Infrastructure to see what measure can be established to solve this problem in the long term.’

“These businesses have lowered doorways that make them more disability friendly and I would not like to see this changed in order to respond to the flooding issue.

Cllr Howell added: “This has been a problem for many years now and I feel that I feel that it is very important that we press on the Department the crucial need for new measures and drainage being put in place.”

Emma Rogan MLA and Cllr Róisin Howell are calling for improved measures to prevent flooding in businesses on Castlewellan’s main street.
