Sinn Féin’s Downpatrick election candidate Jordan Madden has described an upcoming information session in Ardglass as a “golden opportunity” for the local fisheries, aquaculture and related maritime community to engage with the South East Area Fisheries Local Action Group (SEA FLAG).

The SEA FLAG are currently seeking expressions of interests from the local coastal community for applications to the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund and are holding an information event in:

Ardglass Golf Club ,Tuesday 19th February, 11am – 3.30pm.

Mr Madden said: “Newry Mourne and Down District Council came together with Ards and North Down Borough Council in 2013 to form a partnership to deliver Axis 4 of the European Fisheries Fund (2007-2014).

“From this joint initiative, SEA FLAG was set up to initiate a community-led approach towards the sustainable development of fisheries areas into the future, and in June 2018 a £2.3m fund was set aside to deliver community-led, local development opportunities for Ardglass, Kilkeel and Portavoige.

“This is a great opportunity then for our local fisheries, aquaculture and related maritime community to engage, and discuss the potential in securing some of this valuable resources for the wider Ardglass coastal community.”
