Sinn Féin Mourne’s councillor Willie Clarke has called for motorists to reduce their speed when entering Bernagh Green and Mourne Green in Newcastle. He said this area is used as a short cut during periods of congestion by many motorists to access the Dundrum Road and vice versa onto the Castlewellan Road, Newcastle.
Cllr Clarke said:xa0″A number of concerns were raised with me by residents living in this area that cars are speeding through the estates on an on-going basis. A high number of children live in this area and parents believe it will only be a matter of time before someone is seriously injured or killed by a speeding cars coming through the estates.”
“This is an issue which must be resolved sooner rather than later. I will be raising this issue at the Newcastle interagency meeting which is scheduled for Thursday 2 July to discuss improvements that will ensure the safety of local residents.”
