Hazzard Calls For Quick Action To Improve State Of Hiltown Road At Bryansford
Sinn Féin MP Chris Hazzard has requested urgent resurfacing works in Bryansford village, following another busy summer period which has left the condition of the road in the village increasingly deteriorated and in need of a resurfacing scheme as soon as possible.
The South Down MP said that after working with the Department to see Bryansford prioritised in recent years, the local community now need to see action on the ground.
Mr Hazzard said: “It is clear to see that a resurfacing scheme is needed for Bryansford village including a large stretch of the Hilltown Road which is now in dire condition.
“A long promised resurfacing scheme for the local community – many of whom have suffered damage to their cars as they endured a deteriorating surface in recent times – is now urgently required as we enter the winter months.
“I have made the case yet again to DFI Roads that this proposed scheme must be progressed now at pace and resources allocated to allow these works for Bryansford village to start as soon as possible.”

Cllr Willie Clarke responds to issue over road repairs in Burrendale Park Road
Sinn Féin Cllr Willie Clarke has again called on the Housing Executive to urgently complete the long-delayed resurfacing works at Burrendale Park Road flats 13/15 A & B in Newcastle.
He said that for over a year has now passed since residents first raised concerns about the deteriorating condition of the rear communal areas at these properties, yet no progress has been made.
Cllr Clarke said: “It is totally unacceptable that residents of flats 13/15 A & B at Burrendale Park Road are still waiting for these essential resurfacing works to be carried out for a year.
“I first raised this issue with the Housing Executive over a year ago, and despite repeated assurances, nothing has been done.
“While other blocks in Burrendale Park Road have been resurfaced, this block continues to be overlooked, leaving residents feeling ignored and treated unfairly. The surface remains uneven and unsafe, leaving it difficult for residents using the line.
“The Housing Executive must now clarify why this block has been excluded and immediately prioritise these overdue works. The safety and well-being of residents must come first, and it’s long past time that this issue was resolved.”
Housing Executive Area Manager, Claire Crainey said: “We will address the immediate issue of ensuring the area is cleaned and tidied.
“We will then consider how to best address the longer-term resurfacing requirement and can provide a further update when that decision has been reached.”
