Traffic speeders in Strangford cause concerns to parents and road users
Sinn Féin MLA Cathy Mason and Newry Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson Councillor Philip Campbell have called for the urgent extension of the 30mph speed limit along the Strangford Road, citing the growing concerns over safety on the busy road.
Speaking after a visit to the area, South Down MLA Cathy Mason said: “The Strangford Road is extremely busy. As well as being used by pedestrians and cyclists.

“There is a high volume of traffic including commuters, farm vehicles, and school transport. People have repeatedly raised their concerns about speeding with my office.
“Extending the 30mph zone would make the road safer for everyone who uses it, our residents and visitors alike.”
Downpatrick DEA Councillor Philip Campbell added: “As Council Chairperson, and Councillor for Downpatrick, I am committed to ensuring road safety.
“Slowing the road traffic on this stretch of road is part of that commitment, reducing the likelihood of serious accidents and giving peace of mind to our local community.”
“Sinn Féin will continue to engage with residents, and press for action until a solution is delivered.”
