Shimna Stars Special Olympics Club recently held their annual general meeting in the Burrendale Hotel.
In his end of year report, Club Manager Daniel Hardy thanked all those who had supported the club in any way and in particular members of the local community, local sponsors BlueClarity, Go-Figure, local councillors and Down District Sports Development for their continued financial support.
Mr Hardy congratulated all the athletes who represented the club in the Ulster Special Olympics Basketball League and also those athletes who gained success in the individual skills competition. As with all clubs nothing would take place without the support of parents, volunteers and the use of facilities.
As a club Shimna Stars is most grateful to those who assist at training each week and attendance at events. Thanks also must go Shimna Integrated College for the regular use of their premises.
As in previous years, Shimna Stars SOC will host several fund raising and social events prior to the commencement of the 2015/16 League.
On Saturday 31 October, Nisa Extra on the Dublin Road in Castlewellan will be the venue for a collection Day. A Race Night will be held in the Mourne Golf Club on Friday 27 November. The Annual Christmas Night Out for Athletes will be held on Tuesday 15 December.
Commencing on Tuesday 3 November for 6 weeks, Shimna Stars will also participate in the collection of Non -Perishable Foods to be donated to the Newcastle Food Bank.]]>
