Shannon Welcomes Initiative Between SERC And Mash Direct

dn_screenJim Shannon, MP for Strangford, has thanked Mash Direct’s Martin Hamilton and Chief Executive Ken Webb of SERC for a meeting that will enable both parties to assist young people from the Ards area to seek employment. At present MASH Direct employ 160 people and this amount is set to increase as even more contracts have been secure.

Mr Shannon said: “This is a very positive development.

“Ken Webb, the Chief Executive of SERC, was accompanied by officers Andrew McGarry and William Greer and they discussed the programme that was available and useful for filling these employment gaps. First start which is a six month programme for 18-24 year old unemployed and the year programme is a youth employment scheme with apprenticeships. Martin Hamilton is committed to providing employment and SERC will work together with MASH Direct to agree framework and mechanisms to supply the individuals.

“MASH DIRECT is a progressive food manufacturing company which will soon be offering even more opportunity for work in the Ards and SERC certainly wants to assist them with this and see young people moving from education and training into full time work. This will provide a trained and skilled work force that will deliver a high quality product from NI and which travels the world to the UK mainland, the Republic of Ireland, Middle East and other parts of the world. It is great to see local companies engaging with local educators and trainers to bring the benefits to the local people – exciting times for all involved,” added Mr Shannon.
