Constituent receives a parking ticket due to disabled bay being freshly painted whilst in the space
Strangford MP Jim Shannon MP has expressed his shock at a driver receiving a parking ticket on the Circular Road, Newtownards last week.
He said: “This back entrance to the Shopping Centre in Circular Road, Newtownards is no stranger to a traffic attendant and seeing a car ticketed there is certainly not unexpected.

“However, when the concerned constituent came to the office and outlined the details, I was absolutely shocked!
“The constituent had parked in the non-time limited section of the road and headed into work.
“When she returned she found a ticket on the car and the reason was that she had parked in a disabled space!
“When she parked the car there – the space was NOT a disabled place. On her return to the car, there had been a space painted around her car and disabled written on the top of the space.
“The paint was still wet and indeed she has photographs of paint splatter on her car.
“The fact that this was painted on the road and then she was ticketed is like something from a spoof film… but this is the reality and I am flabbergasted that this is the case.
“We have appealed the parking ticket on her behalf, but more that this it is important that we ensure that there is some form of communication between the line markers and traffic wardens so that this never happens again.
“This certainly is a case of one hand not knowing what the other is up to.”
