Shannon Pledges Support To Holocaust Memorial Day

Jim Shannon MP Supports Holocaust Memorial Day

Jim Shannon MP for Strangford signs Holocaust Educational Trust Book of Commitment.

HJe said: “It was great to sign this book of commitment to pledge my unwavering commitment to Holocaust Memorial Day and honouring those who were murdered during the Holocaust as well as paying tribute to the extraordinary Holocaust survivors who work tirelessly to educate young people today.

Strangford MP Jim Shannon signs the Holocaust Education Trust book at the Houses of Parliament in London.

“Holocaust Memorial Day falls on annually on 27th January every year, the anniversary of the liberation of the infamous former Nazi concentration camp, Auschwitz-Birkenau, in 1945.

Across the UK – and world – people will come together to remember the horrors of the past.

“Holocaust Memorial Day is an important opportunity for people from Strangford to reflect on the darkest times of European history.

“In June 2019 I visited Birkenau death camp close to Auschwitz just outside Krakow in Poland while doing a community good relations course. I saw the ovens, walked through a death chamber where Jews were gassed in the 40s and saw the scenes where a multitude of horrors took place. It was an experience I’ll never forget. Now I know why my father spent six years of his life in the army in World War II.” (Jim Masson.)

“I pledge to remember the six million Jewish men, women and children who were murdered in the Holocaust and speak out against all forms of anti-semitism, which in recent months has risen exponentially and which needs to be tackled head on.

“This Holocaust Memorial Day, as anti-semitism once again sweeps across the globe, it is more important than ever to remember the six million Jewish victims and to remember that anti-Jewish racism did not begin nor end with the Holocaust and that we vow never to let it happen again.”

As the Middle East remains a powder keg at the moment, the underlying hatred to the Jews reciprocated by the Jewish hatred of the Arabs, has fuelled a situation that could explode into a major world war.

So keeping a tight rein of emotions is critical at this juncture especially as the Israeli-Hamas conflict still rages.
