Strangford MP Jim Shannon has asked Ards and North Down Borough Council to remove a damaged yacht near the Portaferry road at the lake in Greyabbey.

“T”he yacht broke from its mooring in February and the tides have battered the yacht which now has multiple holes in the hull, and the mast is under the port which is lying upside down on the beach, not able to move now.

“I have contacted the Council to get the yacht removed or for the owner if he or she can be traced to get it removed.

“The response from council correspondence indicates that Council will have to remove it and they are going through the steps of that procedure now.”

Jim Shannon added: “As the tourist season approaches, the eyesore of the up-turned boat needs to be addressed. This is a picturesque shore – it has been lying there for 4 months and it needs to be taken away now and I appreciate Council doing all they can to get this safely removed.

“The owner will have to be traced and costs will need to be passed on.”
