The first activity was a fascinating foraging workshop led by Joan Noade from Finnebrougue Woods, who shared her extensive knowledge of wild, edible plants found in local woodlands and hedgerows.

In addition, participants learned how to safely identify seasonal wild foods, discovered the health benefits of a range of native plants and heard practical advice and creative ideas for incorporating foraged ingredients into everyday cooking.

The workshop also encouraged them to see the natural environment from a new perspective while promoting sustainable practices and wellbeing.

A second highlight of the day was the immersive virtual reality experience, which allowed participants to enjoy a spectacular journey along the Newry, Mourne and Down coastline without leaving their seats.

Equipped with headsets, visitors stepped aboard a specially adapted bus and were transported on a virtual walk through the district’s breathtaking coastline and landscapes within the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with the innovative experience enabling everyone, including those with mobility challenges, to appreciate some of the district’s most scenic locations in a fully accessible and engaging way.
