Second Weekend Race Day For Downpatrick

Downpatrick Racecourse: preview and tips for Tuesday’s seven-race card

A second day of racing this week at Downpatrick takes place on Tuesday 15th July 2025 with a seven-race card in the afternoon.xa0

The meeting gets underway at 2.18pm with a two mile and five furlong handicap hurdle before coming to a close at 5.20pm when a field of eight tackle the bumper over the two and a quarter mile trip.

An open-looking handicap kicks things off at 2.18. The Tony Martin-trained Gotmore Lady showed some promise when fourth at Tipperary last time out so could be the way to go at Downpatrick in the first race of the day.

Look Don’t Touch is a 35-race maiden for the Conor Maxwell team but was another promising last-time-out performer, fourth in a Punchestown hurdle contest that could improve further.xa0

There was an excellent attendance at Downpatrick racecourse for the first of the two day summer racing event with the children’s fun day on the Monday.

Race two of the afternoon sees a field of five head to the start for the two mile and five furlong maiden hurdle (2.48).

Powerhouse trainer Willie Mullins is hard to ignore in this one with Persian Daughter, a good second at Bellewstown on hurdles debut ten days ago and steps up in trip for what looks like a good chance to open her account.xa0

Kamikaz Du Plessis built on a promising debut to score at Wexford 11 days ago for the Gordon Elliott yard so is taken to follow up in race three at Downpatrick (3.18) which is a novice hurdle over the two kile and five furlong trip, while race four (3.48) can head the way of Sights Unseen for the Gavin Cromwell team, a previous course and distance winner that was third on chasing debut last time out at Tramore but didn’t meet expectations then, so is given another chance to shine this time around.xa0

The Monday children’s fun day was very popular as some dinosaurs made a rare appearance.

Another previous course winner in Ollie La Ba Ba is the selection in race five on the card (4.18) for the Eoin McCarthy team, reverting back to hurdles after a first-fence fall when chasing last time out at Roscommon. Divilabother rates the main danger, second last time out and was closing all the way to the line.xa0

The penultimate contest on Tuesday’s card sees 13 runners head to the start for the two and a quarter mile mares handicap hurdle (4.50) and Miss Gitana could be the way to go for the Gordon Elliott team, a good third over fences at this track in May before winning on the Flat at Tramore last week so should be bang in there once again.xa0

Finally, the card comes to a close at 5.20 with the bumper over two miles and two furlongs, with preference in the finale heading the way of Closutton, unsurprisingly hailing from the Willie Mullins yard which is based in Closutton, who has to warrant respect on debut for an ultra-powerful top yard that is no stranger to success in card-closing bumpers.xa0
