SDLP Call For Drumaness Street Light Extension

South Down SDLP MLA Colin McGrath and Ballynahinch Councillor Mark Murnin have called on the Department for Infrastructure to extend the Street Lighting from Drumaness Village out to Corry’s Corner on the Main Newcastle/ Ballynahinch roadway.

South Down MLA Colin McGrath and Cllr Mark Murnin are pressing for lights’ improvements at Corry’s Corner in Drumaness.

Commenting, the South Down MLA said: “Many children, pensioners and others walk from the village to the bus stop and as we are entering darker evenings and mornings, we need to be very conscious of pedestrian road safety. I have called on the Department for Infrastructure to assess this area and provide the much needed lighting.”

Cllr Murnin said: “My predecessor, former Cllr Anne McAleenan, fought long and hard for this bus shelter and after protracted representations she secured it for the people of Drumaness.

“However, what is now needed are the associated services, so I support Colin McGrath’s call for street lighting from the village of Drumaness to Corry’s Corner. I have also requested to meet with the local Street Lighting Engineer with a view to expediting this request.”
