Irish Championship Motocross final round at Saul

  • Saturday 20th  & Sunday 21st August: MX Championships at Saul.

Next weekend sees the return of the Irish Championship to County Down at the  Mountain Quarter Motocross track in Saul near Downpatrick.

Hosted by the Knock Motorcycle and Car Club, this will be the final round of the six-round championship, all the championships will be concluded.

The track is located a few miles from Downpatrick close to the village of Saul. It is a natural terrain venue located on the side of the hill looking north over Strangford Lough towards Newtownards and Belfast with panoramic views.

The track has been used several times in partnership with the landowner and a great bunch of local riders, and has been developed into a great flowing MX venue with lots of elevation changes, plenty of variation of lines with a mixture of natural and man-made jumps to push the riders of all abilities from youth to adult to their limits.

Come enjoy the weekend of motocross at Mountain Quarter in Saul, Downpatrick.

On the Saturday there will be the All Youth action events along with Ladies, events, EVO, and fun race for the adults.

Action is scheduled to start at 9am with practice for all classes raving gets under way at 11am with 3 sets for all classes finishing at 5pm with an award ceremony.

Admission is free all-day Saturday.

Moving to the Sunday action starts at 9am with Practice for the Adult classes.

Clubman classes, over 35, Veterans are followed by the Expert and Semi Expert.

From the timed practice for expert and semi expert classes the times are merged.

The Two Race Classes

  1. Pro Class               fastest 35 riders           3 x 20minute plus one lap race
  2. Semi Pro class       remaining riders          3 x 16 minutes plus one lap races

This year the format has produced some of the best racing at Irish Championship level for many years.

A full programme of races starts at 11 am with  the Clubman classes with a Prize ceremony for all about 5pm

The IMX Pro class championship is lead by Jason Meara from Loughbrickland with a 62-point lead over his brother Ulster Champion John Meara.

Jason needs only 1 12th place finish to secure the Pro Class tittle. Luke

Smith from Newtownards has 3rd place in his sights and 3 good results are in his grasp.

The Clubman Mx1 is led by Juris Varanauskis by 14 from Dromore rider William Flak, Clubman Mx2 is close with just 4 points dividing Stephen Maitland from Darren Wilkinson.
