Newry Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Gillian Fitzpatrick said: “Newry and Downpatrick traders are busy preparing for the forthcoming Christmas season and I would encourage everyone to come out and support the local businesses in the run up to Christmas.

“The best way to spread Christmas cheer is to sing loud for all to hear, so I would encourage everyone to join in and sing their favourite Christmas carols. I would also encourage everyone to come to the ‘Switch-Ons’ and have as much fun as you can with all the available activities at each event.

“This jovial period is a time for grown-ups to remember their magical childhood memories and I am sure I will not be the only one buzzing with excitement as we wait for the arrival of Santa to officially start the festive season in Newry and Downpatrick”.
