Saintfield Local History Talks’ Series Begins

At the Saintfield Heritage Society talk last week, 160 people attended and the huge response was very well received by the committee organisers.
Speaker Alister McReynolds, author and local historian, whose subject was the Early History of Saintfield, with Newry Mourne and Down District Council Chairman, Cllr Mark Murnin, Janice McHenry, Vice-Chair of Saintfield Development Association,xa0 and chairman, Martyn Todd.xa0

The talks was the first of a series of five events in Saintfield called ‘Discover Saintfield Community, funded by the NIHE Community Cohesion Fund.

The second talk is on Tuesday 22nd January at 7.30pm in the First Presbyterian Church Hall. xa0The speaker will be local historian Philip Orr and his subject is Professor Francis Hutcheson, recognised as Saintfield’s most influential person.
The third talk will be in the church of Mary, Mother of the Church , Crossgar Road, in Saintfield at 7.30pm on Tuesday 29th January. xa0The speaker will be Eamon Phoenix and he will be talking on the 1798 Rebellion and the Battle of Saintfield.f
