Runners Encouraged To Sign Up For Charity Half Marathon In Ards And North Down

Deputy Mayor of Ards and North Down, Councillor Carl McClean, is encouraging local runners and walkers to put on their running shoes and get fundraising for their charity of choice by completing this year’s Ards Half Marathon and Walk. There is still time to register to take part in the 13.1 mile run or the 9 mile walk which takes place in Newtownards on Friday 24 June 2016 at 6.30pm.

Residents can not only raise money for their chosen charity by gaining sponsorship for their run or walk, but a top prize of £400 for the first male and female runner to complete the 13.1 mile route is also up for grabs.

The race has achieved Championship Status from Athletics Northern Ireland (N.I.).xa0 This accreditation also gives a stamp of approval from the governing body, signifying the level of professionalism by organiser, Ards and North Down Borough Council.

Fellow runner, Deputy Mayor of Ards and North Down, Councillor Carl McClean is urging local runners and walkers to get training.xa0 He said: “Running or walking the Ards Half Marathon and Walk is a great way to raise vital funds for your favourite charity.xa0 Especially as the infamous Scrabo Hill provides the added challenge of a hill climb.xa0 I would encourage local residents to consider taking on the course as a way to raise money for one of the many wonderful local charities that serve our community on a daily basis.xa0 Plus, what better way to get fit for the summer than setting yourself the race as a goal!”
