Run A Marathon For Cancer Focus NI

Have you always wanted to tick a marathon off your bucket list?

Maybe you’re a runner in the making but you don’t have the time to train? Cancer Focus Northern Ireland has the challenge for you.

The charity is encouraging people of all ages to lace up their trainers and get involved in Marathon May. The fitness challenge with a difference involves completing a marathon distance of 26.2 miles over the month of May to raise funds for local cancer patients and their families.

Jillian Wallace, Challenge Events Officer for Cancer Focus NI, and Gary Vint are encouraging people to take up the marathon challenge and run 26.2 miles over the month of May

Jillian Wallace, Challenge Events Officer for Cancer Focus NI, said: ‘We are so excited to launch the second year of our Marathon May challenge.  At Cancer Focus NI, we want to help you to take positive steps to adopting a healthier lifestyle to lower the risk of cancer.  This challenge not only spreads our message but also help us to raise vital funds for local cancer patients and their families.

“We love the idea that anyone can take part and complete their own marathon. Marathon May is completely flexible, you decide where and when you run. It is suitable for people of all ages, for fitness fanatics as well as beginners. Whether you want to get involved in the marathon spirit, kick start a health transformation or you want to get fitter for summer, this challenge caters for everyone.”

Gary Vint took part in Marathon May last year, walking the 26.2 miles over May and raised an incredible total of £1,500. Gary, who is living with inoperable lung cancer, said it was an experience he’d never forget: “When I read about Marathon May I immediately thought, I can do that.  It was absolutely fantastic. It was one of the best things I’ve ever done in my life; I would encourage anyone to take on the challenge this year.”

Jillian added: “Marathon May is free to enter and we will provide you with all the support you need such as a free downloadable calendar to plan your Marathon, fundraising advice and training tips.  All we ask is that you try to raise as much as you can for Cancer Focus NI.  All the money you raise will be spent on the services we provide in the local community.”

So what are you waiting for? Sign up now to conquer 26.2 miles your way this May and help raise money to support local cancer patients across Northern Ireland.
